Outdoor Pickleball Courts Coming to Abacoa Soon!
The Town of Jupiter recognizes that the demand for dedicated pickleball courts has increased significantly over the past several years. Average growth of the sport since 2019 tops 155% with Florida ranking as a State with the highest number of participants each year.
In the current Community Investment Program (CIP) budget, funds have been allocated for tow projects within the Town's parks that will include the construction of several dedicated outdoor pickleball courts in an effort to meet these demands.
The scope of these projects include:
Abacoa Community Park: 1501 Frederick Small Road - Re-purposing one existing roller hockey rink (north rink) into five dedicated pickleball courts.
Jupiter Community Park: 3377 Church Street - Repurposing three existing tennis courts (east courts) into eight dedicated pickleball courts.
Both projects are being completed within the areas of the park that currently includes sports lighting. This will allow the courts to be used every day of the week within park operating hours.
At this time, the Town is preparing a Request for Proposal (RFP) to solicit and secure a contractor for these projects. Work will start as soon as a contractor is selected and available. The Town plans for to be finished by the end of the fiscal year on September.
While these projects satisfy the need and desire for outdoor pickleball opportunities, the Town also has CIP funds dedicated to the replacement of the Jupiter community Center multi-purpose gymnasium floor, which is frequently used for indoor pickleball play. This project will require the closure of the gymnasium and is currently scheduled for August or September and will coincide with the end of the Youth Summer Day Camp program and the start of the Fall 2023 youth indoor sports programs.
