Jupiter's Last Straw
"Plastic never goes away, plastic costs billions to abate." It is estimated that over 500 million straws are used by Americans each day and did you know that in Florida, we do not have a facility that can properly recycle straws? Therefore, no straws used in our great state are recycled.
The Florida Department of Environmental health recently launched a program asking Floridians to please #SkipThe Straw, their website states "to preserve natural resources and keep Florida’s environment free of pollutants, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection encourages Florida residents and visitors to reduce their plastic use and 'Skip the Straw.'”
In early April, I proposed to the Town of Jupiter Town Council that we explore the possibility of enacting a "single use plastic straw" ordinance within town limits.
The ordinance is now being discussed amongst the town's Beach Committee and I encourage you all to please engage with our Facebook Page, and visit our website to learn more about the Ordinance we are proposing and why it matters to Jupiter Residents.
